O’Malley statement on Kiplinger “Best Values” rankings
Statement from Governor Martin O’Malley on Kiplinger’s Ranking of Five Maryland Colleges Among the Nation’s “Best Values”
ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 4, 2011) –Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today following Kiplinger’s ranking of five Maryland institutions among the nation’s “Best Values” in Public Colleges 2011:
“I want to congratulate the students, faculty and administrative staff of the University of Maryland, College Park, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Salisbury University, Towson University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County for being among Kiplinger’s ‘Best Values’ in Public Colleges for 2011.”
“Together, even in the toughest of times, we have remained committed to ensuring that higher education is both affordable and accessible for anyone who is willing to work hard for a better future, which is why we chose to freeze in-state college tuition for four years in a row. Because of the remarkable dedication and diligence of students, faculty and staff, Maryland colleges and universities are national models for quality, affordable education.”
“As we weather this economic downturn, we must never abandon the dream of a college education. As families around Maryland and throughout the nation continue to struggle, it is now more important than ever to keep college affordable and accessible. At a time when many states have significantly increased tuition at public colleges and universities, we have made the choice to protect our greatest investment in the talents, skills, innovation, and education of our people.”
