Orioles make an offer to Vlad Guerrero

RotoWorld

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles have made an offer to free agent designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero.

Rosenthal suspects that the offer is worth between $3 million and $5 million. Vlad is thought to be looking for something closer to $8 million, but the Angels, Rangers and Blue Jays have all dropped out of the running and there’s no reason for the O’s to meet his demands. If Vlad concedes and winds up in Baltimore, Luke Scott would move to left field to open the DH role.

Report: Angelos prepping the Orioles for a sale to Ripken-led group within next two years?

We’ll note it’s not April 1 before going on to discuss this report by Rex Snider of WNST.

From Snider’s post on the subject:

According to celeb-O’s fan, Roy Firestone, he received some possible inside information that indicated Peter Angelos might be readying the Orioles for a sale to local investors. Better yet, the group is supposedly headed by Cal Ripken.

On Saturday night, Firestone attended an event with Orioles greats, such as Brooks and Frank Robinson. The event provided Firestone with his information on the possible upcoming sale of the ballclub.

Firestone has been quick to point out his “source” is confidential. However, he has also identified this same source as one of credibility in past dealings – and, one who has the connections to know such information.

But, don’t get ready for any transition to happen soon …..

According to Firestone’s source, the sale is supposed to be consummated within the next two years. Of course, such a period of time can lead to many hurdles, detours and dead ends. But, it’s still comforting to hear such a transition of ownership might be in the works.

I would agree with Snider’s further points that it’s too soon to get excited about this, but it is indeed a positive sign for all fans of the team. A lot can and will happen before any such deal falters or succeeds. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: See the comments below for a valid point about the above report. Also, welcome to all Baseball Musings readers.

Police say Baltimore Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon is the main suspect in the fatal shooting of a man in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican police said in a statement Sunday they believe Simon shot and killed 25-year-old Michel Castillo Almonte and wounded his 17-year-old brother during a New Year’s Eve dispute in the northeast coastal town of Luperon.

Police say they are searching for the pitcher in his Caribbean homeland. He was born in the northwest town of Santiago.
