The jurors in the Sheila Dixon trial continued their deliberations with no verdict today. They will return Wednesday morning. Some observers expect a decision prior to Thanksgiving.
Abe Pollin, who purchased the Baltimore Bullets in 1964, died today at the age of 85. Pollin moved the team to Landover to the Capital Centre in 1973 and renamed them the Washington Bullets (after one season as the Capital Bullets.) He later moved the team to Chinatown in DC to the arena (now known as the Verizon Center) he built that revitalized the neighborhood. He changed the team nickname to Wizards after the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Terry Owens is leaving WMAR. This is the second high-profile departure from Channel 2 in the past week. It was announced late last week that Mary Beth Marsden was leaving. Both Marsden and Owens reportedly took a buyout and there may be more departures before the buyout window closes. Owens was an anchor on the 5:30 news and a reporter on the 11 p.m. news.
BlueHippo, the firm that is accused of ripping off consumers trying to buy computers, has filed for bankruptcy. It was also reported today that 30% of millionaires living in Maryland last year are not living here now. The federal Office of Thrift Supervision has placed Severn Bancorp of Annapolis under federal supervision.
Various reports indicated today that former Raven Tony Fein’s death was ruled a morphine overdose.
