UPDATED: Ron Smith has discontinued chemotherapy and is undergoing palliative care

Is legendary Baltimore broadcaster Ron Smith (right) planning to retire? It sounds so. We’re told that his wife, June, posted the following on Facebook Wednesday: “Ron will be making a very important announcement at 9:05 AM tomorrow (Thursday). Please know we could not have made it this far without your love and support. Be sure to read Ron’s final column in Friday’s edition of the Sun. Please know we are at peace.” Ron, who hosts the 9 AM to noon show on news talker WBAL, 1090 AM, was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer last month. While he had vowed to continue doing his show during intensive chemotherapy treatments, he has been freqently absent…..
UPDATE: According to Bryan Sears of Patch on Facebook:
Ron Smith announced he has discontinued his chemotherapy and will undergo care that will ultimately result in home hospice care. “The idea of a a miracle with stage 4 cancer—well, there isn’t going to be any miracle.” Smith said he will continue on WBAL Radio as long as he is able.
Smith has also penned his farewell column for the Baltimore Sun.
