This is a belated entry that I had been meaning to blog about before.
Baltimore Crime has the story of WBAL TV using a video on their newscast that was originally posted at Baltimore Crime (and on youtube) that WBAL said “just appeared” without giving credit.
This is eerily similar to WMAR lifting content from Inside Charm City.

Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley has fired bench coach Tom Trebelhorn. Trebelhorn had been with the team for 12 years and previously managed the Cubs and the Brewers. First base coach Sammy Mejias will also be replaced. Trebelhorn, who was promoted to bench coach by former manager Sam Perlozzo, had planned on coming back.
Pitching coach Leo Mazzone, a friend of Perlozzo’s who left his job as the long-time Braves’ pitching coach when Perlozzo was hired as manager, wants to remain coaching next year and wants to retire in Baltimore.
Mazzone’s comments:
“I want to go until I’m 62, and I hope the rest of the way it’s in a Baltimore uniform,” said Mazzone, who turns 59 on Oct. 16. “I mean this place, it’s my home state and this is one of the greatest sports towns in the United States.”
It appears doubtful Trebelhorn, who is 60, will be hired by another team.
Update: More coverage at Oriole Magic and Roch Around the Clock.

The Ravens-Browns game ended and the result is a Baltimore loss. After being down 24-3 in the 2nd quarter, 24-6 at the half and 27-16 at the end of the 3rd, The Ravens mounted a comeback attempt that stalled after one touchdown pass (McNair to Sypniewski) in the 4th Quarter. The box score of the game is here.

After yesterday’s upset of Rutgers by the Terps, I was poking around the Maryland Athletics website for more information on backup-turned-hero Chris Turner (pictured at left resembling a more athletic version of Napoleon Dynamite) when I found his bio page. I’d wondered where he was from and probably generalized a bit on his hairstyle (which is longer and curlier right now) when I read that he was from California. The personal section of his bio mentions his birthday, his parents’ name, and the fact that he’s a scuba diver and a government major. Near the end of the section is the following blurb, “father was the original drummer in the band RATT.”
After researching the RATT wikipedia entry, I’ve got more information. The predecessor to RATT, known as Mickey Ratt, was founded in San Diego around 1976 (11 years before the Terps’ signal-caller was born.) John Turner, father of Chris, was the drummer of that band.
In 1980, the band moved to Los Angeles and, in 1981, the name was shortened to Ratt. By 1982, it appears that John Turner had left the band and was replaced by Bobby Blotzer. The most recent incarnation of the band played a double bill with Poison (a.k.a. the Ratt-Poison show) at Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore on August 29.
Had it not been for Josh Portis being suspended for the season for cheating, Turner may not have gotten the opportunity to lead his team to a win yesterday in the 2nd half.

Update from the Ravens-Browns game: Jamal Lewis just scored a touchdown on a controversial call to extend the Browns lead to 24-3 over the Ravens. Brian Billick threw the challenge flag, but after the ball had been snapped on the extra point so his challenge wasn’t acknowledged. It didn’t appear the ball crossed the plane. 4:52 is left in the first half.
The Browns have more rushing yards in the half than any other Baltimore opponent this season in a whole game. The Lewis touchdown was the first rushing TD scored on the Ravens since last November.
