Phelps re-ups with Speedo

Michael Phelps inked a new deal Wednesday with swimsuit maker Speedo through 2013.

The deal ensures the Baltimore native and 14-time Olympic gold medalist will wear Speedo gear at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

But Los Angeles-based Speedo will donate $10,000 to the Michael Phelps Foundation for every world record the swimmer sets. Phelps, a Speedo endorser since 2001, said he will match each donation.

Police say that Phelps’ SUV was involved in a crash with at least one other vehicle around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Calvert St. and Biddle St.

Phelps is not believed to be injured and police are investigating the cause of the crash

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says Phelps was driving a late-model Cadillac Escalade Thursday night when it and a Honda Accord collided.

The AP report on the Sun website also said the driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital.

Michael Phelps signs new endorsement deal for waterproof headphones

Phelps and H2O Audio are expected to announce a multiyear partnership on Tuesday, in which Phelps will endorse the company’s line of waterproof headphones and accessories. The company will feature Phelps in a summer ad campaign, founder and chief executive Kristian Rauhala said, according to the report.

Phelps, who listened to headphones before races during his record-setting run at the Beijing Games, said he uses the company’s in-ear, waterproof Surge headphones during training, according to the report. The headphones are integrated with a carrying case for his iPod, which he attaches to his swim cap with a magnetic strip.

Yes, the 14-time Olympic gold medalist has a new book in stores itled “How to Train with a T. Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals.”

It features illustrations by Ward Jenkins of Phelps, his bulldog Herman and his coach Bob Bowman.

In the book Phelps describes his training regimen in terms relatable to kids. For example, during six years of training, he swam 12,480 miles. He points out that’s the same as swimming “from my hometown of Baltimore to the North Pole and back, and doing it all over again!”
